If you're interested in kids photography, family portraits, or people photography in general you should visit Gretje Ferguson's blog. I stumbled upon her site when I added a link to the reportage about the making of The ultimate group photo shoot that she wrote. In her blog, Ferguson shows some of her work, including touching photos from her recent project "Images of strength and hope" that highlights the strength and optimism shared by many people undergoing cancer treatment.
I myself rarely do kids photography. Most of my clients are of the commercial and business type, but whenever I get the chance to photo-shoot kids (including my own youngsters
) I enjoy it so much. Kids can say so much without even a single word. As a photographer, you need to learn to read their body language, their expressions, their moods. Sometimes they giggle, others they are shy, they can be cooperative or indrawn. Whatever their feelings are, kids are almost always exposed. If you go down their eye level and just look and listen you may find a whole world, then try to capture it. Now, that's a challenge. Gretje Ferguson writes: "For me, photography is all about reflecting a person's authentic nature". I like that statement.
